Following a massive playoff upset against the Heat, the Milwaukee Bucks centerpiece Giannis Antetokounmpo surprised the hoops world with his own version on the notion of ‘failure.’ A reporter had asked the 2021 NBA champion if he regarded the shocking exit as a failure. Antetokounmpo famously replied there is no failure on sports and he went on for quite some time to explain his side. Apparently, several NBA stars empathized with the vanquished Bucks star. However, Shaquille O’Neal, who has historically been calling a spade a spade, begs to differ from Antetokounmpo and his notions.

Soon after Antetokounmpo’s comments went viral, Shaquille O’Neal had empathized with him and said the season was a failure, but Antetokounmpo is not. Now, the Los Angeles Lakers legend has shed more light on how he looks at failure. While doing so, O’Neal has also revealed some of his ‘old school’ ways.

Even while adulating Giannis Antetokounmpo for the player he is, Shaquille O’Neal said that the season was a failure for the Bucks. In the recent episode of The Big Podcast,?Shaq’s co-host and NFL veteran Spice Adams said that the season was not a failure for the Bucks and Antetokounmpo. Adams pointed out that the Eastern side had made it to the playoffs. Shaq, however, could not agree with his co-host. The 4x-NBA champion explained that fans expect a championship-winning side to win titles again.

As the Bucks had won the 2021 title, they are obviously a favorite to win the title in the seasons that follow. Besides, being the top seed, the Bucks fell at the hands of the eighth seed. This, according to Shaq, was failure. “I failed 16 times. I did, because I was the Shaq, I was the man. I had all the commercials, I had all the money. You are supposed to win. You miss a lot of free throws, you can’t shoot, you failed. And, then when I won and what they expect me to do, win again,”?said Shaquille O’Neal explaining his notion of failure.

Shaquille O’Neal won’t compromise his ‘training’

Shaquille O’Neal shed light on his training while explaining how the Bucks have failed this season.?“You know, the participation, buddy environment we live in. It’s it’s changing the game. I always tell people I am 50 years old with old school training, and I am not rewiring my training for the new era. For this new style that we are living. So when you are touted as the best, you are expected to win, and if you don’t it’s a failure,” Shaquille O’Neal said.

Though Shaquille O’Neal has twice spoken about Giannis Antetokounmpo and his famous comments, Shaq has not changed his opinion. He has never thought of Antetokounmpo as a failure. However, according to O’Neal’s philosophy, the Bucks’ upset will always remain a failure.
