Michael Jordan has nothing else to prove in his life, but once there was intrigue about whether he’d become an NBA head coach. Back in 2017, Jordan appeared on Cigar Aficionado, where Marvin R. Shanken asked him whether the Chicago Bulls legend would want to coach a team someday.
“I have no patience for coaching.” replied Jordan bluntly. Then he laid out his reasons to decline such an offer. His Airness added, “My biggest problem from a competitive standpoint is the focus of today’s athlete. And the focus of where I saw the game, how I pursued the game. It changes and it’s totally different. So for me to ask an individual to focus on the game, that way I played the game, in some ways would be, you know, unfair for that kid to have to do that.”
His Airness outlined his impatient attitude to be unfit to navigate the complex terrains of coaching. Additionally, he said how it’ll be extremely unfair to a young player if he imposed his unmatched competitive expectations on him.
