Interestingly enough, Jake Crain who is the host of a popular sports podcast, feels bad for Griner while also not feeling bad at the same time. During one of his podcasts, he talked about why he feels like that.

He said, “I can say, you know what, I hope Brittney Griner comes back, she’s safe. But in that same vein, I can sit here and say, I don’t feel sorry for you for a couple of reasons. Number one, you made the decision. You broke the law going into a country that is literally run like Grand Theft Auto.”

Crain further added, “Since there is a proxy war going on between us and Russia, and you are a high-profile person, you gave them an opportunity and they took it.”

Crain is not the first person to talk about the political angle behind Griner’s arrest. Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal also once commented on the bad timing and the political motivations behind BG’s arrest. Crain also called out commentators like Stephen A. Smith who swiftly dismiss any opposing views on Griner’s detention and label them as hateful.

Griner transferred to a Russian penal colony ahead of schedule

Brittney Griner’s latest appeal was rejected by the Russian judiciary on the 25th of October. This effectively means she will have to serve her complete sentence unless officials negotiate a prisoner swap deal.
