In a 1993 post-retirement interview with former CNN reporter Larry King, Jordan notified that he didn’t join the NBA for money. During the interview, King asked the six-time champion whether basketball was his hobby or just a job, and the 14x All-Star said, “Quite frankly when you look at it we get millions and millions of dollars to play the game that we’ve been playing since we were kids”

Subsequently, he added, “I always treated it as the game that I have enjoyed and even if I didn’t get paid a dollar, I did still play the game somewhere. That’s how much my love was for the game.” The now 59-year-old continued, “I was very fortunate…I didn’t really want a job so I was very fortunate that basketball became that income that a job would have been.”

Even if the six-time champion didn’t generate any income from the league he did still play somewhere else. But at the same, MJ was thankful that he was able to earn some money from the league.
