UNC legend Michael Jordan despised his team and a legend while young

The 1977 UNC Tar Heels had a stacked roster. With players like Phil Ford, Tommy LaGarde and Walter Davis, the Tar Heels were one of the tournament favorites. Junior guard Phil Ford had numerous fans across the country including Deloris Jordan, Michael Jordan’s mother.

However, her son wasn’t the biggest fan of Ford and the Tar Heels, in general. After causing a few upsets during the course of the tournament, the Tar Heels met Marquette in the 1977 NCAA finals. Ford took most of the headlines as he competed despite an injured elbow.

Jordan wasn’t impressed with Ford and the Tar Heels. While his mother cheered on one of her favorite players, her young son despised them. This naturally had her angry.

As history would have it, MJ would join the University of North Carolina. Continuing his fantastic growth from high school, the future NBA champion transformed his game while playing for the Tar Heels.
