Dennis Rodman, the beloved Chicago Bulls legend, had a difficult way up top. His road to winning five NBA championships wasn?t easy. The media and his struggles with his image are well known, but the Bulls no. 91 struggled throughout his childhood. Rodman had a long struggle to even reach the NBA, a sport that he didn?t even like initially. His father was in absentia, causing the relationship with his mother to get strained over time.

The Rebound King talked about the relationship between the two during his Hall Of Fame enshrinement speech in 2011. Rodman was in tears as he apologetically mentioned his mother.

Back in 2011, The Rebound King took the stage and spoke about everything that affected his career. The five-time NBA Champion mentioned the things that made him the player and the person he is. Dennis Rodman introduced the audience to his three kids, mentioning his wish to be a good father to them, before talking about his mother, Shirley Rodman.

Recalling his earlier days, Rodman said ? I would love to set the record straight, I?m sorry it had to be on the main stage here. Me and my mother never got along. I was a very good kid when I was young, but once I got to the age of 16 to 18, 19, 20, I could care less what I did to my mother.? The Bulls legend explained how difficult it was for his mother to work three jobs and have an undisciplined kid like himself. This led to him getting kicked out by his mother, causing resentment in young Rodman.?

The Chicago Bulls legend recalled with great emotional strength that his mother had never hugged him and that still burned a hole in him. But was selfish to not give back anything to his mother, unlike other stars in the NBA. He resented his mother?s actions for a very long time.

Rodman?s apologetic nature to his mother

Rodman continued his speech with the acknowledgment that as people grow older, they understand things better. The five-time NBA Champion looked at his mother and said, ?I haven?t been a great son to you at all last ten years, and you know about it?.?

Teary-eyed Rodman mentioned how he would?ve gone into a darker path if it were not for people like Phil Jackson. The Bulls legend apologized. He then said that he?d want to be a better individual and a better father to his children.
