Miami Heat legend and former NBA champion Dwyane Wade is respected worldwide for being a responsible and loving parent, alongside being one of the best basketball stars of his generation. His daughter, Zaya Wade, identifies herself as transgender and her parents are very supportive of her decision to come out as a transgender girl. DWade publicly announced his daughter’s decision in 2020 and this resulted in a lot of support for Zaya and her family across the board. However, there was a lot of backlash from a certain section of people as well.

Rapper Boosie took some shots at Wade’s wife, Gabrielle Union which created a huge fiasco. In fact, Union clapped back at Boosie which was touched upon by actor and comedian, DL Hughley recently. During a recent interview, he let his feelings be known about the whole Union and Boosie situation.

Rapper Boosie created a lot of controversy with his thoughts on Zaya Wade. In a deleted video, he asserted that Zaya was too young to be making such a life-changing decision. This obviously didn’t sit well with Zaya’s parents DWade and Union. In a resurfaced interview, the actress took a dig at Boosie. She talked about how things were going well in her family and added a cheeky little diss at the end of the statement. Union said, “sorry, Boosie” while talking about his comments on her daughter.

Moreover, she also added some NSFW comments on the rapper which prompted Boosie to respond on Twitter. With this whole fiasco doing the rounds of the internet, DL Hughley recently chimed in on the debate, during an interview with popular YouTuber DJ Vlad.

According to him, there is bound to be criticism whenever something is put out in the open. In this case, it is Dwyane Wade publicly announcing his daughter’s decision.

Hughley said, “If you make these things public, there are people who are going to have public assessments of it. I can’t fault you for loving your child and protecting them and being proud of them, and equally, I can’t fault people for having an opinion.”

Although Hughley has a lot of respect for Wade and Union, it doesn’t change the fact that Zaya Wade’s situation is unpopular to a lot of people. According to him, considering Wade’s huge following across the world, there was bound to be some backlash in one form or another.

In order to shield his daughter, DWade turned off the comments on all of her social media accounts. This decision was taken by the 3 time NBA champion after a long dialogue with his family. In this way, he protected his daughter from all the negativity in the real world.
