The hero of Memphis? Ja Morant. Morant came big as he hit 47 points to carry his team to a hard earned victory. He has kept Memphis in the hunt for a place at the Conference finals. To be better than Steph Curry on any day is a hard task. Only a few players can do that. And 22 year Mordant was among one of those players.

Shortly after the final buzzer, Morant passed Steph Curry and had some playful banter for the Warriors star. Morant confirmed to reporters what he said to Curry. “I was frustrated with myself with missing that layup in Game 1,” Morant told reporters after the game. “Had some friendly words with Steph, after Game 1 he came to me and Jaren [Jackson Jr.] and said, ‘It’s going to be a battle, we’re going to have some fun.’ I was able to return that message tonight.”

Ja Morant, as already said, was incredible against the Warriors. He hit 47 points. This puts him on a list with Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as the only players in history to post multiple 45-point playoff games before the age of 23.

Morant, who brought the Grizzlies home with 18 fourth-quarter points, was ultra aggressive, getting up 31 shots, and 12 of those were from beyond the arc. The Warriors sagged way off him at the top, and he walked into 3s all night, making five of them. If he hits that shot on a consistent basis, which, with that kind of space, he’s going to be impossible to defend.

While he was shooting well, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson shot 5 for 23 from 3 and 16 for 44 overall. Stephen Curry still led the way for Golden State with 27 points on a night where Memphis’ defense held the Warriors to just 18.4 percent shooting from 3-point range. Jordan Poole added 20 points in the loss. Game 3 is on Saturday in San Francisco.
