However, his off-the-court chemistry with fellow NBA legend Charles Barkley is something special. The two are some of the funniest analysts in the NBA world who often make the fans laugh with their hilarious antics. However, things were not always smooth when the two played in the NBA. The now all-cuddly Shaq and Barkley were fierce competitors on the hardwood.

During a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets, the two were involved in a physical altercation and had to be separated. Interestingly, their mothers had to intervene.

Charles Barkley received the ball in the low block and tried to make the most of it. Shaquille O’Neal came out of nowhere and fouled him while trying to block. Barkley was furious and hit Shaq’s head with the ball. Shaq retaliated with a punch that did not land. Barkley then tackled him to the ground, and the two had to be separated. The officials ejected both superstars for their actions. Shaq’s mother, Lucille O’Neal, and Barkley’s mother, Charcey Glenn, were very close friends. They were not happy with what they saw and immediately took action.

The two mothers called their sons after they were ejected and firmly asked them to amend things. Shaq and Barkley eventually met in the hallway and hugged it out. Interestingly, the NBA legends took it up a notch and went for dinner.

Charcey Glenn and Lucille O’Neal spent a lot of time together and traveled across the country. However, the Philadelphia 76ers legend was once worried about his mother’s spending. A few months back, during an episode of the Big Podcast with Shaq, Barkley hilariously revealed how he told his mother she couldn’t spend like Lucille because he was not making as much money as Shaq.

Charcey Glenn passed away in 2015 at 73 from kidney failure. Close friend Lucille O’Neal spent a lot of time with Charcey while she was suffering from the illness and until her demise. Charles Barkley said, “When my mom was dying, Shaq?s mom and Miss Martha spent all their time with my mom in her last few days, this is how close they were, there were best friends for 30 years.”
