The whole country awaited Brittney Griner‘s return when she was held captive in a Russian prison. After spending nearly 10 months in exile, the WNBA star was brought back home through a prisoner swap deal with Russia a few months ago. Griner’s wife Cherelle was a big reason behind her return. Even after Griner’s return, Cherelle continues to work for prisoners held captive in a foreign land. However, she recently halted her activism to celebrate an exciting update about her wife.
Cherelle had issued a plea?to the President of the United States regarding an American national held in Iran just hours ago. Amidst her relentless quest to work for people facing the same problems as her wife, Cherelle, and other WNBA fans received a major update worth celebrating.

Griner’s wife Cherelle recently shared the story of Emad Shargi. She made a plea to the President that Shargi should be brought back home. Shargi has been held captive in Iran for the last five years. He is an American-Iranian businessman who was held on espionage charges by the Iranian authorities.
Although Shargi’s family made numerous pleas to the government, their requests went unheard. But now with the momentum and influence attached to the Griner family, Shargi’s family may soon receive some hopeful news. Cherelle shared Shargi’s story on her Instagram. The WNBA star’s wife often uses her platform to highlight such issues.
Amidst her attempts to bring Americans back to their home soil, Charelle and Griner’s fans received some exciting news. The 8x WNBA All-Star has not played a game since February 2022. She was detained in Russia for carrying cannabis oil and returned back home in December.
As it turns out, the Phoenix Mercury center recently returned to practice with her team. Griner’s teammate Diana Taurasi also shared her feelings with ESPN before Griner’s return. She said “I think she?s gotten better”, while hoping for a great outcome from this season with Griner’s return to the court.
The Phoenix Mercury’s social handle announced the return of Griner in a post. The post was captioned, “It?s one thing to be back on the court, it?s another thing to be back at home. Be back with BG at Footprint Center on May 21st ?.”
