The NBA draft is over, and many players got to know their first NBA team. Among the drafted pool of players, one name that is making the rounds is Mark Williams. The Michael Jordan-owned Charlotte Hornets drafted the 20-year-old as the 15th overall pick. The team was excited to welcome the young talent and he even got a call from Michael Jordan himself. It was a celebration moment for all the parties concerned and the former UNC Tar Heel gave the call to his new colleague. As per the video shared by the?Charlotte Hornet?s Twitter channel, he also mentioned that he remembered Williams was a Duke Blue Devil. Yet he was proud to have Williams on his team and wished him good luck.?

In a telephone conversation with Williams, Charlotte Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak congratulated Williams on being drafted into the NBA,?before handing the phone over to Jordan, the team’s owner and a former UNC Tar Heel. MJ said,?“Even though you’re a Dukie, I take pride in that we did draft you.” ?Williams replied by saying, “Gotta put the beef aside.“?

Williams is among the program-record five Duke players that were drafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, including the number one overall pick, Paolo Banchero. Williams was awarded the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year in 2021?2022. He averaged 11.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game.?
