As Brittney Griner finally returned home after spending several months in Russia, there’s probably no one else more happy and relieved for the WNBA star than her wife, Cherelle Griner. For a woman who just got her wife back home, every new day is a celebration of getting back together. While the couple is settling back into their normal lives, it seems like Cherelle has found yet another reason to celebrate.

Cherelle Griner recently shared a post on her Instagram handle. The post was uploaded by ESPN’s special correspondent Angela Rye and it was a celebratory post for politician Hakeem Jeffries.

Congressman Hakeem Jeffries made history by recently becoming the first Black politician to lead a party in the US House of Representatives. Jeffries received 212 votes in the first three rounds beating Republican Kevin McCarthy who received 203 votes on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. The same day, the California Democrat Pete Aguilar called Jeffries ‘the pride of Brooklyn’ as he nominated the 52-year-old Brooklyn native.

Angela Rye posted the brief video of Aguilar nominating Jeffries on her social media account. Her caption read, “I never doubted that Hakeem Jeffries could become the first Black Speaker of the US House of Representatives. I hoped he would have a more direct route (not as Democratic Leader first because Dems lost the majority).

This moment is so special. Not because the GOP couldn?t get it together and even elect a Speaker. Not even because Hakeem got more votes than McCarthy. It is special because I know, WE know he is the best person for this role. That?s the best kind of history. “
