Following his HIV diagnosis, Magic Johnson’s routine was filled with good amounts of rest and workouts. Eggs, sugar-free snacks, and turkey sausages replaced his portion of nachos. Additionally, his workout regime included weights, 700 situps, and a jog. This was paired with basketball drills on the court. When Johnson realized he could potentially get back on to the court, his drills on the court intensified. While the 5-time NBA Champion focused on beating the odds, he also broke myths in the basketball community, leaving his wife extremely impressed.

Amidst getting in sync with his new routine, Johnson’s friend and bodybuilder Marchell Henry stated that it took some time for the three-time MVP to start weightlifting which gave Johnson more power and agility on the court. This led to the breaking of the myth that consumed the NBA Players’ community. Henry explained that the players feared weightlifting because they believed it would hamper their basketball skills.
However, Johnson had set an example. He said, “If they lift a lot of weight, they’d get tight and it would affect the jump shot … they’d get too bulky and most players like to be fluid.″ However, the myth was now squashed.

The Los Angeles Lakers‘ legend weightlifting also helped him build on confidence. He also started feeling good about himself and his looks. This was an aspect that Johnson’s wife Cookie heavily appreciated. Henry said, “He (Johnson) told me Cookie (his wife) likes it, too.″
In the thick of this time, Johnson’s HIV didn’t hinder the process of getting fit. Supposedly, the doctors had given a green signal to Magic Johnson’s fitness regime. After years of hard work, the three-time NBA Finals MVP left the world stunned with his comeback and physique. Thereby continuing to be an inspiration for many.
