WNBA star Brittney Griner is going through a tough point in her life. The Phoenix Mercury center is awaiting an appeal hearing scheduled for October 25 after being sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison. However, Brittney Griner is still fighting hard for her freedom as she welcomed her 32nd birthday detained in a foreign country. Griner was known for getting in trouble as a kid. She was quite mischievous and often ended up testing her luck with her mother. The one thing that stopped Griner from going too far was the fear of punishment from her strict father.

Back in 2014, Brittney Griner released a biographical memoir, In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court. The 2014 WNBA champ talked about her journey of discovering herself as a kid, and the challenges she faced on her journey of being a successful basketball star. BG also shed light on how she discovered her sexuality and the criticism she faced every step of the way.

Brittney Griner feared her strict father

Griner reckoned that she was quite a mischievous kid while growing up. The eight-time WNBA All-Star shared that her mother, Sandra Griner, was a quiet and soft-spoken person when Griner was a kid. So, she often tested how much she could get away with on her mother’s watch.

Meanwhile, BG’s father had a completely different personality and his rules often perturbed her. BG suggested that she was stubborn like her father but she avoided doing anything mischievous around him.

Further, Griner stated that her mom never spanked her but her dad did to get her to stop messing around. The 32-year-old said, “She never spanked me, but he did. I got the belt sometimes, mostly the hand- although his hands are so big, they felt like a belt.”

Griner tested her mother’s patience

Brittney Griner shared an incident when she tried to test her luck with her mother. Sandra? Griner sent her to her room when she tried to disobey her rules. But BG could not stay still for long and ended up climbing out of the window. She went out and rang the doorbell of their house just to trouble her loving mother.

Sandra Griner lost her cool and yelled at her, which was quite out of character for her. However, BG finally listened to her mother and went back to her room when Sandra talked about calling her dad.
