Dennis Rodman and P.J. Tucker could be two peas in a pod. Tucker has always been associated with playing a ‘team’ game. Rodman, though with his transparent eccentricities and bad boy image, still kept basketball as his holy grail. Both of them are ardent competitors and play to win no matter what. Tucker made headlines with his box score recently.

This season P.J. Tucker has played 14 games for the Philadelphia 76ers. And in the last three games, he has scored 0 points averaging 30 minutes on the court.

Fans have had mixed reactions to this. While some focused on Tucker’s box score and labeled it “brutal”, others defended the player. They said his impact was bigger. Others compared him to Dennis Rodman who had a similar streak in 1993.

Here are some of the reactions from NBA Twitter:

Notably, Dennis Rodman had two?consecutive games where he scored 0 points but had a staggering 49 rebounds. He might not have scored but he played his role to perfection for his team.

P.J. Tucker has arguably never been a scorer either. 76ers head coach Doc Rivers himself recently praised Tucker for the way he plays. After the game against the Milwaukee Bucks, he said that Tucker “may have been our most important player on the floor”. Rivers added that Tucker was an example of helping the team without scoring.

Another Dennis Rodman in the making?

Tucker’s personal stat records may not be history-making like other players in the league, including Dennis Rodman. But Tucker has long been known to shed personal trophies for collective goals.

His teammate, Georges Niang also couldn’t stop praising him. “His unselfish play shows in his stat line, but at the same time, his stat line doesn’t show how much he means to us,”?Niang said.

Tucker is undoubtedly a veteran in the league. His experience speaks volumes but his performances, albeit not glamorous, allow for the game of basketball to be at the frontier.
