The 2022-2023 NBA regular season will be culminating soon and whether the Dallas Mavericks will be making it into the postseason is a big question. The Mavs’ playoff hopes look bleak unless some miracle happens. They have been seemingly going downhill since they acquired Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets prior to the trade deadline. Amidst this uncertainty, the eight-time All-Star uttered a few words about his recent move to the Mavericks days after describing the Mavs’ current situation.
The 2016 NBA champion left his previous franchises: Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, and Brooklyn Nets at a certain point even after promising to stay in the aforementioned franchises for a longer period of time. Fans are familiar with Irving’s behavior of leaving a franchise suddenly. Therefore, they recently speculated that he will be leaving after coming across his recent statements.

The Mavericks added Irving to the roster to have an advantage over other franchises in the league. However, the combination of Luka Doncic and the Ankletaker didn’t quite work on the hardwood. This eventually made the Mavs fall from grace. However, the now 31-year-old is apparently not worried about this current situation and his recent words made it clear his trade to the Mavs was for the long term.
Mavs_FFL on Twitter shared what Irving said about his current situation. The 2016 NBA champion said, “This was for the long term, and this was for something that’s bigger than ourselves and we can’t just be a championship team overnight.”

The eight-time All-Star will become a free agent in the summer and will be able to sign for any team of his choice. However, his statements reflected that he is now fully focused on sticking with the Mavs. The 31-year-old was seemingly expecting that their future will be bright as he understood that one team just can’t become a championship-winning team overnight.
Fans speculate that Irving might still leave
While Irving clearly stated that his move to the Mavs was for the long term, fans were not ready to agree with him. As soon as the post was shared, fans swarmed into the comment section of Twitter and expressed their own opinions. Most of them expressed that he will be gone by the end of this season.
