NBA legend Scottie Pippen recently opened up about his fears during a show. The Chicago Bulls legend is one of the best two-way players ever. Over the course of his career, he helped the Bulls win six NBA championships. While he has been fearless on both ends of the court, he was not completely immune to fears because of his childhood. Pippen was the youngest of 12 children. At a very young age, he witnessed one of his older brothers get paralyzed due to an accident.

Scottie Pippen recently made an appearance on the FACING FEAR show by BlackTree TV with Floyd Mayweather, Ruby Modine, Roxanne Avent, Van Jones, and so forth. During the show, Pippen and others talked about their fears and how they faced them.

The host initially asked Scottie Pippen about his biggest fears. The six-time champion then talked about the tragic things he witnessed when he was growing up. Pippen stated that one of his older brothers was paralyzed from the neck down at a very young age. He noted that the brother is still alive, but he is still paralyzed. Pippen said, “As a young kid I’d seen my brother be paralyzed. He is still living today but he has been paralyzed now for 50+ years.”

Pippen noted that his brother was around 12 or 13 years old when he was paralyzed. He recounted his brother injured his back while he was playing wrestling with his classmates and has been paralyzed ever since. He added that there were fears about his brother’s longevity but his huge family showered him with love and helped him live the best productive life possible.

The seven-time All-Star then revealed that he saw his father have a stroke a few years later. Pippen added these two incidents were something that he is afraid of in life. He then also talked about his fears on the basketball court as well.

Pippen’s fears cost him a huge contract

Scottie Pippen then talked about his fears as an athlete during the show. He stated that as an athlete he had fears about injuries. The two-time Olympic Gold medal winner then gave the injury of NFL Damar Hamlin as an example. It is safe to say Pippen was not the best-paid athlete in the league during his spell with the Chicago Bulls despite his superstar status.

Before the 1991 NBA season, Pippen signed a seven-year $18 million contract extension. In his prime, he was only earning $2.6 million. But his fears played a major role in him signing the seven-year deal. Watching his brother and father in wheelchairs for years, Pippen had fears injury might cost him his basketball career. So he wanted security for his family and signed the deal.
