On Wednesday night, the Philadelphia 76ers walked back into the locker room as one happy unit. They bathed in their positive energy as they beat the Brooklyn Nets in a 137-133 game, bagging their sixth win in a row. 76ers’ Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid put up 27 and 26 points respectively while James Harden played a supporting role with 23 points. On the other hand, despite Kyrie Irving‘s 30 points and Seth Curry’s 32 points contributions, the Nets fell short of a win. For fans online, the Nets’ defeat was an important topic of discussion, but there was one moment in the game that stood out.

In the third quarter of the game, the Nets were trailing by 15 points when a fan seemingly got under Irving’s skin. During the inbound play, a 76ers fan sitting courtside rattled Kyrie Irving and forced a reaction from the Nets’ star. Irving looked back and spewed out a few words. The fan responded by mimicking a crying baby and threw in a couple of words. While this interaction was inaudible, videos of the incident made rounds online, and fans quickly chimed in on the interaction.

NBA fans rushed to weigh in on the situation. While doing so, many stood up for the NBA champion. Fans wrote that Irving would eventually face the heat after being rattled by the courtside fan and deemed this to be unfair. Many addressed the fan as an “average Philly fan”. Some called for the league to take some action against such fans.

All eyes were on this game because James Harden was playing against his former team and Ben Simmons was back in Philadelphia for the second time this season. Fans anticipated tensions on the court to be high, but contrary to this, both teams looked locked in. Their focus was to play ball and grab control and momentum of the game.
For the 76ers, six of their players registered points in the double digits while three bagged 20+ points. Embiid led the stats sheet with the most assists (8) and rebounds (10) while Maxey led in the points section. The Nets saw five players with points in the double digits but this left a minimal impact as the 76ers held onto the dominating momentum through the game.
