Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Robert Horry, in an episode of ‘All The Smoke’ candidly discusses an incident that involved cops. The 7x NBA champion Robert Horry found himself at the center of attention during his son’s basketball game a few months back. The 52-year-old former basketball star was ejected from the game for passionately expressing his discontent towards the referees.
Horry’s son, Christian, a standout guard and a junior at the esteemed Harvard Westlake, was in a matchup against St. Francis in Flintridge. The incident unfolded in the midst of the game, adding an unexpected twist to the evening’s proceedings.
Horry shed light on the incident, explaining that his comment directed at the referee was not laden with profanity. In his own words, he stated, “I didn’t cuss, that’s the craziest thing. I said, “Hey ref, you suck, man” and he went to the cop, the cop was like…what do you want me to do?” Surprisingly, the referee, seemingly taking offense to the remark, chose to involve law enforcement in the matter.
The response from the officer was dismissive, however, with a clear indication that it was not for him to intervene over a remark. Undeterred, the referee sought the assistance of the school’s A.D. escalating the situation further.
The former player also expressed his disappointment for missing his son’s game, but there’s only so much one can do. During his illustrious 17-season NBA career, Robert Horry left an indelible mark on the league, representing notable teams such as the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs.
