What did Kobe give himself the nickname of the Black Mamba?

After having troubles in the year 2003, Kobe felt his name had been given a bad reputation. And he needed to reinvent himself to win people back over. So he created the name Black Mamba to cope with the backlash. “Kill Bill” inspired this move. He adapted this nickname to separate his life from on the court to off it.

And from that point on, the name Black Mamba was associated with Kobe. And he had everything he could to make sure the name lasts forever. While he made the name famous by dominating the basketball court, he did something off the court as well. In 2015, along with a partnership with Nike, Kobe created the Mamba League.

This gave kids across the country free access to the sport. He also created the Mamba Sports Academy to support kids; provide them with the athletic lifestyle of competitors in many sports. And he was on his way to the academy when he tragically passed away in a helicopter crash. We now know August 24 as Mamba Day which was created to honor the Lakers legend.
