For the NBA, Michael Jordan is undoubtedly a hero of mythical proportions. Jordan’s legacy is so awe-inspiring that even contemporary NBA stars are his fanboys. Present-day NBA superstars speak about their ‘MJ moment’ with the same passion and innocence as a 10-year-old Bulls fan from the 90s. However, everyone is not such a big fan of His Airness and some of them have even vehemently criticized him. Analyst Colin Cowherd is one such critic of MJ, who has been consistently throwing jibes at the Chicago Bulls icon for the last few days.
After suffering innumerable backlash as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets, MJ has decided to call it quits with the franchise. As soon as the news of the Hornets’ sale spread, Cowherd started a tirade against Jordan by stressing the few failures in MJ’s life. However, as it turns out, Cowherd has now cut some slack for the 6x- NBA champion.

Six days back, Cowherd had chimed in with his critique of Jordan and his failures. He called out His Airness for failing at baseball, playing for the Wizards, and owning the Hornets. Cowherd even went to the extent of saying, “Take out Scottie Pippen and Phil Jackson, this whole Michael Jordan mythology is sort of just that.”?Moreover, in a recent episode of his podcast, Cowherd again called out Jordan and said anyone who criticizes the NBA legend will be labeled a hater. However, later in the podcast, one of MJ’s harshest critics sympathized with him.
“I look at Michael and I say, people say oh he was rough on teammates, but the Pistons were tackling him, the Celtics were doing about the same. The East was loaded and physical and it was all allowed by the league,”?Cowherd admitted.

He continued, “And I say to myself relentless was the only way for Michael to get through it. He was being attacked defensively. And could I argue that we do things out throughout the course of our life because it gets us to a better place, and the East was a ‘bully ball’. Knicks, Celtics, Pistons, and Michael was the target for almost all of it,” Cowherd said.

Before the legendary Bulls team broke even and went on to win two three-peats, they were constantly outplayed by teams like the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics in the Playoffs. The Pistons-Bulls rivalry is one of the most famous rivalries in NBA history. The Pistons used their strength and size to play a physical game to contain Jordan and co from winning. They had even devised the infamous ‘Jordan rules‘, according to which the Pistons’ defense challenged MJ physically. The rivalry between the Bulls and Pistons even gave way to Jordan’s infamous beef with Isiah Thomas.
After getting constantly outplayed by the rugged game of Thomas and co, His Airness had to remain tough and ruthless to give it back and finally achieve glory. Therefore, Jordan had to build up toughness on the Bulls’ side, which was necessary for them to overcome the tumult.
