It sent shockwaves across the NBA when Chris Paul was traded by the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards. Many thought that CP3 would finally win a title with the Suns given the superstars in the squad Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Many fans of the point guard were disappointed with the move as well. Then in another surprising move, the Wizards sent the 12-time NBA All-Star to the Golden State Warriors for Jordan Poole. However, Paul’s decision to join hands with former rival Stephen Curry is questioned.

Many Warriors fans were disappointed with the move of Poole to the Wizards. Given his heroics in the 2021-22 playoffs, many thought he would slowly take the reins from Curry. So, it was a huge blow for them. However, the massive experience of Paul could come in handy for the Dubs.

Stephen Curry and Chris Paul have locked horns with each other on multiple occasions. The two first faced off in the first round of the 2013-14 playoffs during Pauls’ time with the Los Angeles Clippers. This time, CP3 and the Clippers won the series 4-3. They then clashed again when Paul was playing for the Houston Rockets.

Curry had his revenge as the Warriors eliminated the Rockets for two straight years from 2017-18 to 2018-19. During this period, the Dubs were almost unstoppable and won three titles in four years. Furthermore, their beef took center stage when Paul allegedly denied the court for Curry before a playoff game. After clinching the series, the sharpshooter had some words for his rival.

Given the history between the two guards, some can’t believe Paul would join Curry to have a shot at the title. In one of the recent episodes of the Ryen Russillo podcast, guest Van Lathan brought it up. The media personality claimed, “This is a Jay-Z-Nas type situation.”

Lathan said that rappers Jay-Z and Nas had intense battles for years and then Jay-Z ended up signing Nas. So, he compared CP3 to the Warriors with the rappers given the beef between Paul and Curry. He added, “Does it feel good to win a ring if you had to do it on Steph’s team? He shook you, made you fall down, he kind of took the West from you. It’s just kind of the petty s**t that I wonder if these players really care about.”

The host replied that considering Paul is past his prime and his age, the move was not “egregious”.

The beef between Chris Paul and Curry

Since Chris Paul played most of his career in the Western Conference, his clashes with Stephen Curry were frequent. Also, they have multiple times battled in the playoffs as well and Curry has mostly come out on top. The beef was at its peak when the two met in the 2018-19 playoffs. CP3 reportedly denied the court to Curry and the Warriors to practice before game 6.

The four-time NBA champion was furious and after winning the series responded, “Kick me off the court again, boy!”
