Fans are undoubtedly worried about WNBA superstar Brittney Griner, so is an 83-year-old ex-inmate of the Russian prison. As the news of Griner’s transfer went public, it has become a worrying factor for just about everyone. Amidst all this, ex-inmates, Trevor Rowdy Reed and Maria Alyokhina came forth to share their experience with the world and so did Marvin Makinen from Chicago.

Marvin Makinen, an ex-inmate of Russia, recently shared key details of his prison time with the New York Post. He said that the memories still affected him and it took a lot of time to adjust to his daily life once he got out. Notably, Makinen was arrested back in 1961 when he was just 21 years old.

As he recalled some terrifying details, Makinen had some suggestions for the US officials that concerned WNBA champion, Brittney Griner. He said that the American authorities should often press on meeting Griner as a way of making sure that she remains in good health condition. Furthermore, he also wished well for Griner and hoped that she is allowed frequent communication with her family.

Makinen said, “I hope that they allow her communication, written communication with her family to keep up her mental health. I was limited to one letter a month.”

Marvin Makinen is an 83-year-old professor of biochemistry and molecular biology. His designation is enough to let people know of his smartness and education quality. However, with no context, it’s doubtful that anyone could figure out that he had served about eight years in a penal colony.

Makinen had reportedly spent about two years in a maximum-security prison. Following that, he was transferred to an isolated labor camp.

“It becomes very depressing. There?s a lot of mental anguish,” added Makinen.

The 83-year-old professor also said that he had to keep himself engaged in any kind of activity in order to remain mentally healthy. Notably, Makinen spent about 28 months as a prisoner, out of which he spent four months in a labor camp. During that time, he lost 55 pounds. He was freed in 1963 as part of a prisoner exchange program.
