While the 2022-23 NBA post-season frenzy gathered full momentum with the Conference Finals and the subsequent Finals, the 2022 champions, Golden State Warriors were nowhere to be seen. GSW had ended their campaign on an underwhelming note as the Lakers ousted them during the Semi-Finals. Since then, alarming concerns have started to loom over the bay area side’s future. Even though the team still has chances to maintain their core, they will have to pay a price. Amid this uncertain time, a former NBA star made a painful admission about the Warriors.

For the future, the Warriors have made a key change by promoting Mike Dunleavy Jr. as their new general manager. However, if Stephen Curry and co. were to hold themselves together as a franchise next season, they will have to earmark a whopping $500 million.

Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson form the Golden State’s core. The trio has been through the side’s thick and thin during its last four championship triumphs. Meanwhile, it is not possible to overlook the contributions of former general manager Bob Myers towards making the current Dubs side a dynasty. When word got out that Myers might step down, many have claimed that the Golden State dynasty will be a story of the past.

In a recent episode on ESPN’s?NBA Today, the hosts weighed in on the San Francisco side’s future and their recent key decision. As things stand now, Warriors ace Draymond Green has not revealed whether he will exercise his player option. Given this uncertainty around Green’s future and Myers’ step down, host Malika Andrews asked ex-NBA star Richard Jefferson if the window is closing on the Golden State dynasty.?“The window is always closing. Every season, the window gets smaller. I will say this about Mike Dunleavy and this would be one of the hardest things I have ever said in my life. He, I think could do a very very good job,” Richard Jefferson said.

Jefferson added that Mike Dunleavy Jr. can work well with the new role in the Golden State. However, for Jefferson, the uncertainties about the GSW roster’s future and Myer’s step down is still painful. “As much as it pains, I think the Golden State has done a pretty good job in hiring him[Dunleavy Jr.],” Jefferson added.

The complicated $500 million shocker that looms over the GSW

As things stand now, Draymond Green has a $26.7 million player option with the Warriors. June 29 is the deadline for the 4x-NBA champion to make a call. If he opts-in, the Warriors can retain the veteran core. Nonetheless, if Green returns, the franchise will have to spend $500 million on players’ salaries and taxes. This splurge will leave them a snowball’s chance in hell to rebuild the roster by bringing in fresh blood.
