To anyone familiar with the NBA right now, the LeBron James GOAT debate is a fairly common topic. Compared to Michael Jordan or others from this era, James’ performance and career are often under scrutiny. However, no one can deny that James has worked hard to continue performing at a high level.
In a recent interview, Hall of Famer Julius Erving discussed James’ GOAT status in detail.

While James is already 36, his game has never dwindled. The four-time NBA Champion continues to work, which is something Erving seems to admire.
Why is LeBron James the GOAT for Julius Erving?
During his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Eisen and Erving ended up discussing James’s GOAT-ness. As far as the 72-year-old icon is concerned, James is out there to pass everybody. They spoke about his ability and body, which have been maintained since high school. Till now, Erving has never seen anyone like LeBron.

“LeBron is yes, the Chosen One,” Erving said. He added that James will play into his 40s, and probably play a 22 to 23-year career. James’ started his NBA career in 2003 with the Cleveland Cavaliers, and has since then won four titles with three different teams.
Furthermore, Erving also mentioned players like Moses Malone and Bill Willoughby. While they had what they needed, it is not what James has today. Erving also spoke about Shaquille O’Neal and the late Kobe Bryant, who played from the sidelines during the tail end of their career. They got paid but played from the sidelines.
“LeBron, it won’t be the same for him because he can still be that complete player. His skills are so diverse. He’s putting a million dollars into his body every offseason to be able to still be out there.”?
How does James maintain his body?
Mav Carter says LeBron James spends ~$1,500,000 per year on his body. He uses cryotherapy, hyperbaric chambers, NormaTec leg boots, etc. He also has personal chefs, trainers, etc. He has a strict routine and diet. He invested in his body, so he can still dominate at 33 years old.

James, 37, is known to spend around a million on his body. This includes various methods to keep his body in check and carry on to play at a high level. For someone who is James’ age, playing that well certainly comes with determination and lots of work.
The Los Angeles Lakers star is making sure to maintain himself, something which has ultimately been reflected in his work.

Erving agrees and knows that James is that guy at the end of the day. “He’s going to be the guy who re-establishes the bar for what the GOAT is”.?
That being said, James has been averaging 30.3 points per game this season. While the Lakers are struggling their entire campaign, James’ performance has stayed consistent.
