The past few weeks have been very joyous for the region of Colorado. After all, they finally secured the 2023 NBA title following years of heartbreak for Denver Nuggets fans. The Serbian superstar Nikola Jokic has been the name on everyone’s lips after his historic performance to lead the Nuggets to their maiden NBA title. While the two-time MVP has gotten all the love and praise he deserves, golfer Wyndham Clark has also quietly made history.

The 29-year-old recently won the US Open. So what connects Jokic and Clark? They both brought maiden accolades to Colorado and Denver, in particular.

Nikola Jokic might just be the most famous person in Denver currently. After all, he’s the 2023 NBA champion and also the 2023 Finals MVP.

Not only Jokic, but Wyndham Clark has also made his region very proud. He recently won the 2023 US Open beating golf superstar Rory McIlroy in the Los Angeles Country Club. Interestingly, he’s the first Colorado-born golfer to win the US Open.

Although he’s the third Colorado high school graduate to win the prestigious tourney, he’s been the first native to do so. Steve Jones, born in New Mexico, and Hale Irwin, born in Missouri, won the tournament before Wyndham Clark.

While Jokic brought Denver its first NBA title, Clark brought his birthplace its first-ever US Open title. “There’s been so many times I’ve visualized winning (a major) championship. I just feel like it was my time”, said Clark after his incredible three-foot par putt victory in the 18th hole.

The Denver Nuggets had been dominating the regular season for the past few years. However, they always fell short in the NBA playoffs despite having the likes of Jokic on their team.

The 2023 NBA season was different. Paired with Jamal Murray, the two-time MVP played some of his best basketball this season. Jokic, who made a 5,000-mile promise after the finals, averaged 30.2 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 7.2 assists during the finals. Murray, on the other hand, averaged 21.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 10.0 assists during the finals.
