Brittney Griner had been a brilliant icon for Baylor University. She was one of the most explosive young centers during her time at Baylor. At the same time, the University also enjoyed success due to Griner’s presence, winning the NCAA championship in 2012 with an undefeated 40-0 record. Hence, Baylor’s lack of public support for their most popular alumnus comes as a big surprise to Brittney Griner’s supporters. Fortunately, amid the polarizing Baylor debate, Brittney Griner has found some support and acceptance from a faithful Christian, Greg Garrett.

?Garrett is a Baylor University professor of Literature and Culture. He recently revealed his views on the lack of words from Baylor on Brittney Griner‘s detention in Russia. In his column at Baptist News, Garrett suggested that people at Baylor needed to be more active in raising awareness about the ‘wrongful detention’ of Britney Griner. He also pointed out that apart from Baylor’s coach Nicki Collen, no one at the University was making efforts for Griner.?

Furthermore, the Baylor professor also shared his take on the LQBTQ community and how he sees Griner. The devout Christian wrote,?“God doesn’t make mistakes; every human is made in God’s very image. God loves everyone; we are called to love as God loves.”

Garrett believs that everyone was created equally by God in his own image, despite the various preferences people have. He felt that everyone must love each other the way God does.
