Since the beginning of the NBA in 1946, the league has seen the arrival and departure of many players. However, the league had never experienced the craziness and popularity that fans displayed during the time of Michael Jordan. Arguably the greatest player of all time, the way Jordan transformed the game of basketball into a global phenomenon went on to completely change the direction of the league.

However, Jordan’s dominance on the court resulted in a lot of players failing to achieve their desired goals. Among such players, a name that attracted a lot of attention was Grant Hill. Hill, who was often touted as Michael Jordan’s heir, once paid his respect by bowing down to His Airness’ greatness.

Grant Hill debuted in the NBA in 1994. That was the time when Jordan dominated the court despite taking a brief retirement in between. Hence, Hill, along with many other players, were not able to win any titles during that period. However, this dominance of Jordan probably ignited a spark within Hill. In this interview from years ago with Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and then NBA commissioner David Stern, Grant Hill displayed a hint of it.

Grant Hill recognized the greatness of Michael Jordan

Back in the 90s, Hill got asked what would be the condition of the NBA after the retirement of Michael Jordan. Hill replied jokingly, “Well it would give the rest of us a chance to win.”?Furthermore, he added how the NBA would not have that big of a problem as there were several young talents to carry forward the league further.

However, the interviewer pointed out that the absence of a phenom like Jordan would definitely hurt the business side of the league. He explained how Jordan was a once-in-a-century player. The interviewer further pointed how the tv ratings have gone up during the reign of Jordan and the Bulls. He finished off by saying that nobody had that kind of presence like Jordan in the league at the moment.

However, Hill and Stern continued to emphasize on the availability of rising talents in the league. Hill admitted Jordan’s invincible stature in the league. However, he believed that the league would have no dearth of such players in the future.
