The NBA world is not easily impressed. Not even with the latest accomplishment bagged by?Los Angeles Lakers star, Russell Westbrook, despite the fact that he made a historic record tonight against the Orlando Magic. Prior to the game as well, there had been a lot of chatter about him getting the Sixth Man of the Year award. However, the league’s fans questioned Westbrook’s history-making moment with the hefty contract he was under. One fan wrote, “He gets $47 million to start off the bench“.

Russell Westbrook’s triple-double tonight made NBA history. He finished the game with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists to register his third triple-double of the season. Moreover, all of them have come off the bench, making him the first player to do so.

As per the Lakers, Westbrook has now tied Detlef Schrempf?s record for most triple-doubles off the bench in league history. The Lakers beat the Magic with a final tally of 129-110.

Russell Westbrook makes Lakers history

According to ClutchPoints, “Westbrook became the first Lakers player ever to have multiple triple-doubles off the bench. He recorded his first one in their recent loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, during which he joined Magic Johnson as the only bench player to do so.” But NBA fans are seemingly not impressed with his achievement.

After the game, Westbrook addressed the media and asserted that it was his responsibility to “make guys better, and I take pride in that”. He also added that he was “accustomed” to making plays.

At the beginning of the regular season, the slander for Russell Westbrook was really high. He was labeled as “Westbrick” for a long time for his poor performances. But head coach Darvin Ham stuck to his conviction that Westbrook could thrive in another role.

Though the nine-time All-Star may have not been receptive to this initially, it has proved to be a turning page for his career. Ham spoke to ESPN’s Malika Andrews and said, “We just freed him to go be Russ“. Ham added that Westbrook has been getting better with each passing game. His playmaking abilities have helped the Lakers a great deal.

The Los Angeles Lakers recorded a much-needed win after back-to-back losses. The 17-time NBA champions sit in 13th place in the Western Conference, with a 14-20 record so far.
