Shaquille O’Neal’s recent Instagram post has disappointed NBA fans. He put together a list of first-draft players across the years, but it wasn’t a historical account. It looked like his own personal list. The NBA world questioned him and called him out, “Get this bs outta here big fella”. In their comments, it was evident that they did not take to his post kindly, as they attempted to point out the ignorance in his post.
Shaq made a collage of the “greatest no 1 picks ever“. Among the 10 players, he included himself, in the 1992 NBA Draft along with Magic Johnson and LeBron James who got drafted in 1979 and 2003 respectively.

Despite the Big Diesel opening the floor by encouraging people to comment on players he had missed, the NBA fans were unhappy about the collage itself. The fact that he had missed many players like Anthony Bennet, and Kwame Brown, and down to the current lot like Paolo Banchero and Zion Williamson, seemed like Shaq was snubbing them.
While there were a few people who agreed with the list, many others questioned why a certain player was missing from the list.
According to NBC Sports, “In 75 years of the NBA draft, 19 players who were taken with the No. 1 pick are in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame”. They also noted that there were several players who justified their first-pick status. Perhaps the fans on social media may have wanted Shaq to give proper credit to other players as well.

Later that year, he also won the NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 23.4 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. He was also the first rookie ever since Michael Jordan in 1985 to be named an All-Star. It was also believed that his presence in the Lakers franchise also helped catapult the team to reach the NBA Finals, just in his third season. He eventually played with other teams, as he built a grand legacy.
