It looks like the NBA world is fed up with the Los Angeles Lakers. Fans took to social media to express their anguish as they chanted in unison to “free LeBron”. With another loss to the Miami Heat tonight, it appears that LeBron James’ years and experience are not being maximized by the franchise. The entire night displayed the team’s struggles as they lost 112-98.

LeBron James finished the game with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Despite being listed as ‘questionable’, he showed up for his team when they needed them most, yet again.

LeBron James: the one-man Lakers army

According to The Los Angeles Times, James’ team’s winning is a thing of the past. “Those days are long gone, though, having been replaced with games where his numbers only count toward career stats ? and not wins“, they noted. It was also reported that the Lakers missed too many shots, and made “too many mistakes”. Notably, they had 26 turnovers in the game.

NBA fans were also acutely aware of this fact as they seemingly came together in support of LeBron James.

The soon-to-be 38-year-old star threw his hands up in the air during the game and appeared to be frustrated. He was also seen giving a fierce look as if his patience was thinning out. The Lakers now sit 13th on the Western Conference table, with a 14-21 record so far. Many around the NBA world are beginning to believe the Lakers are already out of playoff contention this season.

Trying to salvage LeBron’s 20th year

LeBron James came into this season clocking in his 20th year in the league. He is also one of the oldest players in the league today. Though he may not be playing at his prime, the franchise is arguably shouldered by him at the moment, especially since losing the services of Anthony Davis to injury.

Sports Illustrated?recently commented on the Lakers-LeBron relationship. They said, “The Lakers are, by every imaginable definition, tragically squandering the last, best years of one of the greatest players in NBA history.” The 18-time All-Star has missed two playoff trips during his tenure with the Lakers. The chances of him missing another one may be highly plausible.

When the Lakers extended the four-time NBA champion’s contract, they wanted to insulate James’ legacy and keep the Lakers flag flying high. Recent form and results suggest it could be a season of missed opportunities for LeBron James and co.
