Victor Wembanyama currently plays for the French team Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92. He was already seen as one of the top prospects for the upcoming NBA draft. But the two exhibition games against NBA G-League team Ignite were when Wembanyama really sold his pitch.

Shaquille O’Neal praises Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama truly is a generational talent. Standing at over seven feet tall, he also has the skills of a guard. He can make catch-and-shoot jumpers, while also stepping way beyond the three-point line to knock down shots. And he has one of the most fluid turnarounds from the post.

His game against Ignite where he ended the night with 37 points brought him to the top of the list for being the number one pick in the upcoming NBA draft. Shaquille O’Neal was quite impressed by Victor Wembanyama’s performance.

He urged the French native to become ‘the first Victor’ instead of looking forward to being ‘the future Shaq.’ O’Neal too was the number-one overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft. He was drafted by the Orlando Magic.

Shaq mentioned how he would probably get compared to a player like Kevin Durant but he is the best player to come out of France. O’Neal also stated, “For the first time ever, France could say they have the best player in the world. For a long time, it’s been the Americans dominating, but if I was him I’d be aiming to be the best player in the world.”

Such high praise coming from NBA’s most dominant big man is surely to inspire the budding superstar before his inclusion in the NBA. Moreover, Shaq’s remarks also acknowledge the fact that players from other countries are slowly catching up to the talent in America.

Wembanyama truly has what it takes to be one of the best, if not the best player in the league or even the world. All he has to do is stay healthy and injury-free. Because as fans we all know how gruesome injuries can be and can cut a player’s career short.
