Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal is a certified giant and perhaps has got one of the most intimidating physiques anybody could imagine. While the Hall of Famer can be as soft as a teddy bear with kids, you would not want to see an angry Shaq charging towards you under any circumstances. Known as one of the most dominating players in the league’s history, one would think that the Big Aristotle is immune to most things that plague the mortal world. However, it was proved wrong when the millionaire businessman became the target of an infamous group in Los Angeles.
Shaquille O’Neal spent a significant period of his career playing in Los Angeles, where he built his career and established himself as one of the best players in the league. The Lakers acquired Shaq Diesel from the Orlando Magic in 1996 and four years later the 4x NBA champion won his first-ever three-peat alongside Kobe Bryant. However, the Big Diesel’s LA experience was not all sunshine and rainbows.

In a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, rapper Big Gipp talked about a terrifying incident that is probably still etched in Shaquille O’Neal’s mind. During the interview, Gipp started talking about the ‘LA gangbang culture’ back in the day, which then prompted the interviewer to ask him about the time Shaq and a Bone Thugs member were robbed.
The 49-year-old Atlanta-born rapper had previously revealed that he had seen Shaq and Bizzy Bone getting robbed in front of a ‘Fat Burger’ outlet. Gipp stated that it was not just Shaq, but everyone who has lived in Los Angeles had ‘a situation with them gangs’.
He further revealed, “You gotta understand I’m in a hotel. I’m at the hotel Nikko, we’re on La Cienega. I’m looking out the window, it used to be a Fat Burger right there. So everybody used to pull up to the Fat Burger, get out, order some, you know, kicking it. We cross the street from the Nikko, that’s what Mike Tyson be at you know. I mean it was just a real hangout spot right there doing that during the 90s. So that day, that’s when the gangs was running around, they were robbing rappers.”

Shaq and Bizzy Bone were apparently robbed by the LA branch of ‘The Crips’ street gang. Furthermore, Gipp talked about how the West was different back in the 90s and that people had to behave and speak in a certain way to avoid any kind of trouble. Unfortunately, the 15x NBA All-Star isn’t the only athlete who has been caught up in such a terrifying situation.
NBA stars who have been robbed
Former Minnesota Timberwolves star Antoine Walker was unfortunate enough to be robbed twice. In 2000, the NBA veteran was robbed of his cash and jewelry that was worth $100,000 at gunpoint. Tragedy struck again seven years later when he became the victim of yet another robbery and this time at his home.
