The free agency is about to open up, the Los Angeles Lakers will have a lot more to do than they have done these past few years. The only successful trade that they have made since 2018 after James’ joined the Lakers was Anthony Davis’, and fans don’t consider him a star performer after a series of injuries that forced him out of the lineup last season. He was also out during the 2021-22 regular season.
The 4x NBA champion has 2 years left on his two-year $97 million contract with the Lakers, and it is expected that he is to fulfill his remaining contract. According to SPORTSNAUT, NBA analyst Scoop B Robinson who has talked to some of the Lakers insiders said, “Folks that I’ve spoken with within the Lakers organization and those who know, they shared with me that LeBron will be backing the fall and a very motivated LeBron going into the season.”
LeBron James thought about retiring not only when the Lakers didn’t win the NBA championship, but he also felt tired and stressed due to a foot injury. He had to take care of his foot every day because he missed a lot of games earlier in the season.
Even though the Lakers made some changes to their team, LeBron realized that the current roster wasn’t strong enough to win the championship. The Lakers have a good record, but it wasn’t enough.

Why did James think of retiring?
The 19x NBA all-star not only thought of retiring but also of leaving the LA Lakers as he thought the Lakers lacked the depth to win an NBA title. When R0b Pelinka helped sign former Lakers star D’Angelo Russell there was a motivation in the team that his signing was a positive impact on the roster. He eventually helped the Lakers push toward the playoff but the whole roster was not competitive enough to win a championship.
James scored 40 points in a game-4 loss against the Denver Nuggets. He was exhausted after the game and his right foot was hurt. As he had missed 13 games previously, he had to take care of his foot every day. So, it was in the heat of the moment, and it was not the final decision.
