Former NBA player Corey Benjamin recently hogged the spotlight, but not for anything that he did. In fact, his daughter was the one who caused the stir. In a recent basketball game, the 43-year-old’s child punched an opponent out of anger, leaving her on the floor. Following the unfortunate incident, Benjamin has publicly apologized on her behalf.

A former Chicago Bulls player, Corey Benjamin was a fine guard. The #25 played close to five seasons in the NBA, and averaged around 5.5 points. 2003 was his last season in the top flight, after which he played for several smaller teams. This is the first time in a while that the former player has come under the radar, and with no fault of his own. Yet, his daughter’s actions have forced him to issue an apology. The incident occurred in Orange County over the weekend.

Ex-NBA star Corey Benjamin apologizes after daughter punches opponent

Although Benjamin was not at his daughter’s game, he was extremely disappointed as soon as he heard of the news. It all unfolded at a youth basketball game, when the young girl punched her 15-year-old opponent. This left the girl with a concussion, and she was carried out. An unaware Benjamin came to know of the incident after watching the video. And he was extremely saddened to say the least.

“This is not how I raised my daughter,” said Corey to NBCLA. “To the young lady who was punched by my daughter during a youth basketball game, I sincerely apologize to you and I am praying for your complete healing both physically and emotionally. To her family, I deeply apologize and regret that this happened to your daughter as she did not deserve this to happen to her,” he admitted. It was an unfortunate thing to have happened, and Benjamin took full responsibility for it.

We can only hope that the young injured girl recovers soon. It was an uncalled for incident, and the former Bulls player had to bare the brunt for it. He was selected by the franchise in the 1998 Draft, and strongly regrets his daughter’s actions. Hopefully, she learns from her mistake and comes out of it for the better!
