The 2023 NCAA saga is one of the biggest highlights of this year for basketball. Young athletes are being crowned champions, and on-court battles and controversies are making their way into the media. However, there are other NCAA champions from previous years who’ve transformed into elite athletes. One such champion from 2021 is getting publicity for winning a prestigious award.
The 2021 champion’s story is getting linked with the Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry. Their connection is rooted in her sharing training days with the Curry brothers.

Stanford Cardinal’s Cameron Brink recently won the “outstanding junior” title Stanford Athletics Board awards. Brink’s role as a small forward comes with an impressive trajectory, making her one of the most talked about athletes in recent times.
At just 21 years of age, she houses an impressive resume and continues to improve regularly. She’s the 2021 NCAA champion and won a place on the McDonald’s All-American 2020 team.
But, her story with the 4x NBA champion is an emotional ride. Both Brink and Curry brothers are family friends. It was their shared connection, forcing Brink to attend a training camp with the siblings.
Brink’s and Curry brother’s mothers are good friends and since the age of 8, she’s been cheering the brothers on. She even considers Stephen Curry to be her god-brother.
A beautiful memory they share involves young Brink whispering “Believe in yourself and you can be somebody” to Curry before his Sweet 16 game. Shelly Bain-Brink captured the intimate moment. And now, the 21-year-old star has won the prestigious award at the SAB, bringing their journey so far to a full circle.

The SAB award isn’t the first one she’s won. She has several other notable achievements and accomplishments under her name.
In 2020, ESPN touted her as a 5-star recruit and a number three player. She’s a gold medalist in FIBA under-19, under-17, and 3×3 World Cup. On the court, she’s built an impressive scoresheet under her name. Brink averaged 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game during her high school career. In the 2022-23 season, she averaged 15.1 PPG and 9.6 rebounds per game.
