Shaquille O’Neal and his ex-wife were separated over a decade ago. Since time heals all wounds, they’ve seemed to move on from their relationship troubles and have focused on the new chapters in their lives. Shaq and Shaunie were one of the most famous couples in the NBA and American public life in general, at one point. However, all of that changed pretty soon. Shaunie decided to get remarried in 2022, and since has made big changes in her personal life which she evaded for years due to her family.

Shaunie, who was once called Shaunie O’Neal, has since decided to take up the last name of her newlywed husband Keion Henderson. The decision was a big one, and according to her, she refrained from it at one point because of her children.

Shaunie and her divorce from ex-husband Shaquille O’Neal was an extremely public affair in 2007. It was a time when the ex-couple had three little children which must’ve made things complicated for them. Years later when she was getting remarried in 2022, the Basketball Wives star decided to make the big decision of changing her last name. Shaunie O’Neal decided to become Shaunie Henderson and she revealed it all on the VH1 special Shaunie and Keion’s Destination ‘I do’

I’ve had O’Neal as my last name since 2003,” said Shaunie. She further added, “And getting divorced with very small children I kept it for the sake of my kids. Changing my name lets me start all over and I feel like a whole new person.

The newlywed couple seems to be happy in their new lives as they move on from the past. Shaunie Henderson’s earlier marriage ended in an ugly way, a reason why she receives $100,000 in alimony and child support every month. Shaq, her ex-husband, was admittedly responsible for the rift, something which he has taken responsibility for years later.
