Superstar Vin Diesel took to Instagram and made a stern statement concerning the return of Brittney Griner. He said, “I need Brittney Griner home before Christmas.”. Diesel paired the caption with a photo from the NBA game he was present in. However, he has now deleted that post. Amidst this, 3-time NBA Champion Dwayne Wade delivered a message for the POTUS.

Brittney Griner has been in a Russian prison for over 8 months. While the US government is working towards her return, troubling news surfaces almost every day. Amidst her being shifted to the IK-2 penal colony in Mordovia, reports about the inhumane treatment towards Griner have added to the worries of her supporters back home. With that said, her supporters have constantly been pressuring the government to ensure Griner’s safe return.

Dwayne Wade’s plea in support of Brittney Griner

Dwayne Wade shared a post made by Griner’s WNBA team, the Phoenix Mercury. The post focused on sending Griner strength and courage through these testing times. The Phoenix Mercury organization also called for her return. Wade shared this post on his story with the caption, “284 days..Bring BG home!!!”?

 

From the very beginning, Dwayne Wade has been vocal about his support for Griner. In the early days of her arrest, Wade posted a picture on Instagram with his daughter Kaavia James. In the picture, Wade is wearing a ‘We are BG’ black tee while his daughter is resting her head on his shoulder. He captioned the post while referring to an Angles City FC soccer game. He said, “That?@weareangelcity game had us like ? Big Win ladies!!!! Oh btw (by the way) #WEAREBG.”?

Griner’s current situation

Reports state that Griner has been shifted to the IK-2 penal colony located in Mordovia. This is where she will serve her 9-year-long sentence. While this information was relayed, the US government claimed that no official report has been provided to the team by the Russian authorities about this move. However, Griner’s legal team supposedly visited her.

The Russian deputy foreign minister, Sergei Ryabkov, spoke to the Russian media claiming that there have been developments in the negotiations with the US government. He claimed that the two parties are yet to find common ground. Despite this, he voiced his optimism that the United States will send arms dealer Viktor Bout back to Russia. For many, this was an indication that Griner’s return too was certain.

However, the US government released a statement claiming that the Russians have not participated in any serious discussions or negotiations. The statement said, “We are not going to comment on the specifics of any proposals other than to say that we have made a substantial offer that the Russian Federation has consistently failed to negotiate in good faith.”?
