Larger-than-life and King-sized life are two of the most common phrases we use while speaking about NBA superstars. Perhaps figures like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neal, and LeBron James might even come to our minds after hearing the aforementioned phrases. But way before Michael Jordan started to hoop, there was the legendary Wilt Chamberlain who garnered superstardom, both on and off the court like no other baller of his time. Now, the basketball world is all set to celebrate NBA’s pioneer superstar, Chamberlain, and his surreal legacy.

Wilt Chamberlain indeed was a hero to many young ballers who would later become NBA legends themselves. A Boston Celtics legend recently spoke about Wilt Chamberlain and his King-sized life, celebrating and honoring him.

It won’t be untrue to say Wilt Chamberlain’s historic life had all the intrigues which an epic work of fiction has. On the hardwood, setting rebound records was a routine affair for the Goliath. The ace rebounder once scored 100 points in a single game, which to this day is an unsurpassed record. Meanwhile, the Hall of Famer’s life outside the NBA was as exciting and awe-inspiring.

On July 14, Paramount and SHOWTIME will air the three-part docuseries Goliath, which examines the life and career of Wilt Chamberlain.?Goliath’s?trailer is now out on SHOWTIME Basketball’s YouTube channel.

The video opens with a voiceover that goes, “Wilt Chamberlain invented the world famous photogenic black millionaire basketball player.”?Soon the video cuts to a snippet of the Celtics legend, Kevin Garnett speaking about Chamberlain.

“Wilt was a Renaissance man. He was the first rock and roll superstar in basketball,” the Celtics legend said. “Average 50 points a game? That’s video game sh** man,” Garnett added. Well, what made Wilt Chamberlain such an extraordinary figure? Here are some of his endeavors that made him the NBA’s first “rock and roll superstar.”

Kevin Garnett has indeed given a fitting description of Chamberlain by calling him a rock and roll superstar. In 1960, the seven-footer recorded a rock n’ roll record singing That’s Easy to Say and By the River. Perhaps it was the first of many iconic endeavors that followed.

Chamberlain used his agency of being an elite athlete to inspire and empower fellow athletes. He was a board member of the International Volleyball Association. Besides, he founded a track-and-field club, the Wilt’s Athletic Club, which housed big names like Greg Foster.

Chamberlain is also remembered for the bizarreness of his lifestyle. He himself had once claimed he had slept with over 20,000 women. On the back of his tremendous impact on the game, the NBA even changed certain rules to contain Chamberlain. The two-time champion had also taken his charisma to Hollywood and starred in some super-hit movies.

Prior to his death, Chamberlain had agreed to finance his bio-pic and was even working on the screenplay. That project, however, did not see the light. Better late than never, all hoops fans can dive deeper into the story of Chamberlain’s historic life on July 14.
