With the FIBA men’s world cup set to begin in August, fans were hoping to see the towering athlete’s performances with France. That isn’t a possibility any longer with Wemby deciding to sit out the tournament.
Pardon the Interruption‘s?Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon recently debated on the repercussions of Wembanyama missing the world cup.
Kornheiser questioned Wilbon on Wemby’s decision: “Tony,” the latter answered, “its’s bad in the short term, because people want to see Wembanyama everyday.”
Explaining how that would be possible with the G-league and not the world cup due to fixture congestion, Wilbon stated: “They are playing too many games now from the age of 10.”
Kornheiser disagreed with Wilbon and called out the fact that Wemby should represent his country rather than participate in the G-league.
And while Wilbon’s reiterated his concern, Kornheiser clapped back: “People can get hurt no matter what, people can get hurt in the summer league.”

When is the FIBA world cup?
The FIBA world cup is scheduled to start on the 25th of August and end on the 10th of September 2023. The tournament jointly hosted by Japan, Indonesia and Philippines is going to be the first of its kind and the second one to have 32 teams involved.
Team United States is drawn in Group ‘C’ alongside Jordan, Greece and New Zeeland. Although a relatively easier group the US will be looking to seek revenge as they suffered a humbling loss to France in the quarter finals in 2019.
