Recently, President Joe Biden met Cherelle Griner, wife of Brittney Griner, and reassured her that he is working on bringing her the WNBA star back home. The President met her in the Oval Office. As per reports, the U.S. government has made a “substantial offer” to bring the American detainees, Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan back. It has been more than seven months since the arrest of Griner in Russia. There have been outbursts of anger about her situation on foreign soil and her nine-year sentence. However, very little has changed.

Griner and Cherelle Watson first met each other when they both attended Baylor University. However, they did not date at the time. They started seeing each other after Griner’s split with ex-wife Glory Johnson in 2016.

Then the couple decide to tie the knot in 2019, and Watson later changed her last name to Griner. Cherelle is in pursuit to be a lawyer and has been preparing for the BAR exams. When Griner was first allowed to speak to the camera, she showed her love for Cherelle and wished her luck for the exam.

Cherelle was shaken hearing her spouse Brittney Griner was detained in Russia. However, she was asked to “stay quiet” about it. She tried to be quiet for a period of time. But then she finally broke her silence and gave a statement showing her frustration on the efforts to get her spouse back home after the initial promise.

?Initially, I was told, you know, we are going to try to reserve, we?re going to try to handle this behind scenes and let?s not raise her value and, you know, stay quiet,? Cherelle Griner?told?CBS in July. ?You know, I did that, and, respectfully, we?re over a hundred and forty days at this point. That does not work. So I will not be quiet anymore.?

Over the past few months, many celebrities voiced their disappointment towards the efforts made to help Griner. Initially, Boston Celtics showed their support for the WNBA star by wearing “We Are BG” t-shirts during the NBA finals against the Golden State Warriors. Then WNBA stars followed the trend with the t-shirts and also voiced their condemnation.

NBA superstars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry also showed their support for the Phoenix Mercury star. During the ESPYs, Curry was wearing a “We Are BG” t-shirt and showed his support for the towering center.
