During one such game, Michael Jordan struggled heavily after a former Miami Heat veteran got the better of him in 1996.

Former Miami Heat star Rex Chapman got the better of Michael Jordan while being guarded by the Bulls legend. Despite MJ’s defensive prowess, Chapman scored 39 points and nine three-pointers in the game.

The former Heat shooting guard ‘cooked’ Michael Jordan in a head-to-head matchup. However, Chapman did not just stop by scoring constantly against Jordan. He also ended up making the bold move of trash-talking Jordan. Rex Chapman stated, “You can’t guard me, f**k outta my face, you better switch off.”

While many NBA stars realized that it was an extremely bad idea to trash-talk MJ, Chapman surprisingly pulled it off without any serious repercussions. Thus, as a result of the embarrassment from Chapman, Jordan eventually decided to stop defending the Miami star.

In addition, Chapman’s brilliance helped the Heat beat the Bulls, who had a 72-10 record that season. However, the former Heat star felt that his team got lucky against Michael Jordan’s Bulls.

Chapman shared his thoughts on the famous victory against Jordan

The Heat had only eight players on their roster during the game as they were amid a trade deal. Thus, defeating the Jordan-led Bulls without enough players was an amazing feat from Chapman’s Heat. However, Rex Chapman reckoned that the Bulls did not take the Miami Heat seriously as they were coming off an 8-game winning streak.

Therefore, Chapman felt that his team got ‘lucky’ against the Bulls during the 1996 game, which was possibly a major defensive nightmare for MJ.
