During the interview, Johnson had a bold claim about his friend Abdul-Jabbar. Magic spoke about his career with the Lakers and what it meant to win matches. Johnson started with, “Hey I want to win. I’m on whatever I need to score to help us win, that’s what I’m going to do… Even today I still don’t care, I just want to win.”
Dan Patrick went on to ask the hot question, “Is it possible Kareem is underrated?” The 5x champion boldly replied, “Oh for sure. We have to remember that Kareem is the most decorated winner in basketball history. Think about everything he did. He won almost every state championship at high school, he won every national championship in college, and was college player of the year every single year.”
Adding to the high praise, Johnson added, “He would have won four straight if freshmen were allowed to play at that time. So when I think about his full resume there is no greater winner. Probably him and Bill Russell would be the two dudes who had the most decorated career in terms of winning.”

Kareem’s name is synonymous with winning. The Lakers and Milwaukee Bucks legend won 6 NBA championships during his 20-year career. Although he won the Finals MVP only two times, Kareem was a 6x MVP, the most in NBA history. ‘The Captain’ was named an All-Star a record 19 times; LeBron James recently equaled that tally.
On top of all that, he was a 2x scoring champion and lead the league in blocks and rebounding multiple times. His achievements didn’t start in the NBA though, as he is the most decorated college basketball player of all time. Considering his trophy haul, Magic’s claim about Kareem being underrated may be true.
