Elon Musk recently announced on December 20 that he would step down as the CEO of Twitter after finding a suitable replacement. The massive decision came after Musk conducted a Twitter poll, asking the users if he should step down from his responsibilities as the company’s head. Musk received an overwhelming response with 57.5% of 17 million votes, in favor of his exit. Recently, Los Angeles Lakers icon Kareem Abdul-Jabbar bashed, ‘fake and manipulative’ Musk for his Twitter move.
The Tesla CEO acquired Twitter for $44 billion in late October. However, he surrounded himself with a number of dramatic controversies around the social media platform, resulting in him losing a lot of money. After a tirade of criticism, Musk posted a poll, claiming to take action based on the result. However, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently deemed Musk’s Twitter move as an ‘escape strategy’.

On his Substack platform, Kareem Abul-Jabbar believed that Elon Musk made the move to protect his business and save his image as the people’s liberator. The six-time NBA champ suggested that the Twitter pole allowed Musk to step down and still portray himself as a ‘hero’ who respected people’s opinions. Moreover, Kareem pointed out that the SpaceX CEO pulled off a similar move regarding the sale of stocks when he had already planned to do it.
Further, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar stated, “It’s all rather duplicitous and insulting to his Twitter customers, whom he clearly sees as easily manipulated with a few buzz words about free speech, will of the people, yadda yadda.”
Kareem suggested that Musk had already decided to step down, but he used the poll to save his face value. Thus, the Lakers legend felt that Elon Musk was ‘manipulating’ the people and his customers with a ‘fake’ move. Moreover, Kareem also shed light on a recent loss that the Tesla CEO faced due to his controversial moves.
