In just over a month, former teammates turned into rivals. Fans were eagerly waiting to witness the face-off between Los Angeles Clippers star Russell Westbrook and Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley. The two veterans came up against each other for the first time since their departure from the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the Clippers guard seems to have gotten the last laugh in the battle after videos of Patrick Beverley’s message from his podcast went down the drain.

After years of calling each other out, the duo teamed up in LA. While most fans and analysts didn’t expect them to gel together, they proved the doubters wrong with their great chemistry on the court. Now that both of them aren’t on the same team, they can focus on finding ways to one-up each other and that was the case on Monday. A tough play by Westbrook on Beverley went viral in Clippers’ recent game with the Bulls.

In the recent game between the two teams, Kawhi Leonard and Russell Westbrook lead the team to a crucial win against the Chicago Bulls in the absence of Paul George. Leonard’s 22 points, along with the 2017 MVP’s 12 points and 10 assists, helped the Clippers seal the game. However, Westbrook’s and-one play on the 6’2 Bulls guard stood as the highlight of the game.

A video of Westbrook bringing out the ‘Rock the baby’ celebration after the tough fadeaway against Beverley went viral on the internet. Patrick Beverley had mentioned on his podcast, “I texted Russ yesterday… my last text was ‘Imma bust y’all a**” sharing the message he sent to the Clippers guard. However, it seems like Westbrook did not let Beverley get away with it.

After the game against the Bulls, the Clippers star mentioned in an interview, “He told me he was gonna bust, but as you see that night, I busted his a** that night. He got the first action tonight. On your a**!”

The two stars don’t share a great history

A few days before the NBA trade deadline in February, the Lakers traded Westbrook and Beverley to Utah Jazz and the Chicago Bulls, respectively. Later, the Jazz bought out Westbrook, which eventually landed him at the second LA unit. Moreover, Beverley bagged the chance to play for his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls for the first time in his career.

While the two developed a bond during their time with the Lakers, they have a history of beefing with each other. In 2013, Beverley’s aggression resulted in Westbrook tearing his meniscus, which eventually led to Brodie missing NBA games for the first time in his career. This gave birth to one of the most heated rivalries in the league.

In 2019, Westbrook said, “Pat Bev trick y’all, man, like he playing defense. He don’t guard nobody, man. It’s just running around, doing nothing.” Beverley responded a few years later, saying, “He damaged my career. Like, coaching staffs and players, fans, they looked at me way different.”

The duo never had a great relationship, but they had to put everything aside when they teamed up in LA. However, that didn’t last long and both of them are back at it again with different teams.
