Michael Jordan is one of the greatest athletes ever. Fans saw him on the court saw as a strict leader, ready to go to any lengths to make his team perform. Although Jordan has not exposed his softer side much, we got a glimpse of Michael Jordan’s emotional side in an interview.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Jordan looks back at his life and career. An emotional MJ talks about his father who tragically passed away and could not witness the rise of Jordan.

Talking to the interviewer, Jordan mentions the regrets of his father not being able to be a part of his life and witness his grandchildren and MJ’s accolades.

Michael Jordan talks about his father

Arguably one of the greatest players to play in the NBA is Michael Jordan. His rise through the ranks to become what he is today started in the 90s with the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls dominated the entire 90s as they won 6 NBA titles with a super team.

Jordan’s father tragically passed away in 1993. Jordan talks about the regrets he has about his father not being able to see his kids grow up.

He says, “He never met my fiancée. He never got to see my kids grow up. He died in ’93. Jasmine was a year old. Marcus was 3 years old. Jeffrey was 5 years old.”

How was Jordan’s relationship with his father?

Jordan shared a deep relationship with his father and he simply called him “Pops.” His father worked as a mechanic and was close to him.

MJ has often talked about the contribution of his father. According to Jordan, he achieved so much success because his father kept him grounded. Jordan also referred to his father as his best friend.

There have also been rumors of Jordan wanting to retire from the NBA due to the loss of his father. Jordan announced his first retirement from the league around 2 months after his father’s death.

Although he has not addressed the death of his father to be the reason behind his retirement, he talked about the tragedy during his retirement press conference. Moreover, his teammates also mentioned that the murder affected MJ deeply.

Although it has been almost 20 years since the tragic loss of his father, it is quite evident Jordan still misses him to date.
