The disappointment in Howard’s voice when he talked about his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, was clear as day. The eight-time All-Star Dwight Howard recently appeared on the ‘Club Shay Shay’ podcast hosted by Hall of Fame tight end Shanon Sharpe. Howard, who was cut by the Lakers last season, shared his thoughts on his exit from the team and the NBA.

Dwight Howard reveals harsh truth of his exit from the Lakers

Sharpe then asked Howard if he wanted to return to the team, and he replied in the affirmative. Howard went on to reveal his unfortunate exit from the team. He approached the Lakers Management after the 2020 championship to get the ‘bag.’ However, the team told the 7′ center that they weren’t looking to give another player over 30 a multiple year contract. Howard, in disbelief, said, “I just helped y’all win the NBA championship.”

He believed the Lakers were getting back on him for his antics with them during his first stint in 2013. Howard further mentioned that his physical altercation with All-Star teammate Anthony Davis was blown out of proportion. The drama surrounding the exchange caused his reputation to take a massive hit. Incidentally, the two players made up after the incident.

‘Superman’ played a crucial role in the 2020 championship run. Howard was an essential piece in the rotations; he provided size and toughness on the defensive end and grabbed a ton of rebounds. He was also instrumental in slowing down the opponent team’s centers. However, the Lakers turned a blind eye to Howard’s contributions and were not willing to extend him.
