LeBron James is a different beast when it comes to the NBA playoffs. Many players have lauded his ability to read plays as basketball IQ to read the others helps immensely. However, when going up against the Golden State Warriors, Draymond Green revealed there was no surprise factor.
While on a podcast with JJ Redick, Green spoke about how LeBron couldn’t surprise the Warriors.

Ever since 2015, the NBA saw a trend for almost half a decade. After crowning themselves as champions in 2015, the Warriors met the Cleveland Cavaliers in the final for three straight years. The battle between LeBron and Stephen Curry began, and both teams knew each other inside out.

LeBron James couldn’t surprise the Warriors
While on the podcast, a question of the King in the playoffs arose. Notably, DeRozan and the Raptors were always surprised with James and his ability to read plays. However, Green claimed LeBron was never able to surprise the Warriors.
He said, “The difference is we knew everything they were going to do, they knew everything we were going to do. I’m not sure if DeMar and the Raptors knew what LeBron was going to do….When we go up against each other, there’s no surprises. LeBron wasn’t going to do anything.. other than like make a read, they weren’t going to do anything that we didn’t expect them to do.”

Green went to speak about how it always came down to the game details that would make the difference. And the most important factor would be talent in the eyes of Draymond. With so many finals against each other, it isn’t a surprise that they knew each other like the back of a book. While it did boil down to the minor details most of the times, in 2016, things were definitely different.
The Warriors dynasty came to rise in 2015 with their first championship. So when they got a 3-1 lead the following year, everyone wrote them as back-to-back champs. However, LeBron surprised everyone in the NBA world after he successfully completed the first-ever comeback from a 3-1 deficit in the NBA finals. His historic performance saw the Cavaliers win their first title. And for LeBron, he completed his promise of bringing a championship to his hometown.
