Recently UNINTERRUPTED, a podcast founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, invited three-time NBA champion and one-time Defensive Player of the Year, Draymond Green. Maverick Carter sat down with Green to talk about his financial story and his journey from getting a first-year salary of $850,000 to getting a multi-million dollar contract.?

In 2012, Green was drafted by the Golden State Warriors and he earned $850,000 dollars in his first year, which is a lot for a 22-year-old kid who has seen difficult times when he was young. But Green didn’t hire a professional to help him with money; he wanted to do it on his own.

He later wanted to hire a professional who saw a bigger picture, someone who is not managing an NBA player’s money, but a billionaire’s money because it’s his goal to be a billionaire by the age of 40.?

What did Draymond Green say?

Green said ? My first-year salary was $850,000… which is a lot of money… and you are in the top 1% in America. My first year I didn’t hire a financial advisor, I said I want to do it on my own, I want to know how to pay bills and how money works and if I screw it up, I screw it up because at the end of the day I am 33-years-old I can’t live the rest of my life off this 400 grand but I can teach myself about money.?
