Trouble seems to have befriended the Los Angeles Lakers since last season. As if their previous campaign wasn’t enough, the purple and gold are without a win yet in four games so far. Apart from their new problem of a dysfunctional offense, old hurdles are still alive. Notably, Anthony Davis has already picked up his first injury of the season and is doubtful for their game tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, AD’s absence could determine Russell Westbrook’s position in the starting lineup.

Westbrook is having arguably his worst start to any NBA season. Averaging just 10 points per game, the former MVP is shooting below 30 from the field. Likewise, his poor production makes him an easy target for the Laker nation as their franchise falls apart. While there might be some truth, the recent news left Lakers fans in a world of confusion.

Lakers star big Anthony Davis is doubtful for their contest tonight. However, somehow his missing out could land up opening a spot for Brodie among the starting five. And NBA Twitter was caught by surprise with this news, to say the least.

What is going on with the Lakers?

After missing the last game, Russell Westbrook was all set to return to action. However, the nine-time All-Star was reportedly going to start from the bench against the Timberwolves. Just hours before the contest, however, AD’s status changed to a game-time decision. And Woj reported his absence could alter Westbrook’s role from the bench into the starting lineup.

Likewise, confusion set in. Anthony Davis, a power forward or center from the Lakers would traditionally be replaced by a player of similar dimensions and skills. However, the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to incorporate Westbrook, a 6’3″ point guard in replacement for the near seven-footer in the lineup. The NBA is familiar with a small ball lineup, but this might take it over the edge.

Here are some of the reactions from NBA Twitter:

While the starting five for the Lakers is still a blur, their desperation remains the same. The 17-time champions are in deep need of a win. What started as hopes of a redemption season, the Lakers are just one of three teams without a win in the season so far. Hence, LeBron James & co are walking into the fire tonight.

Minnesota is led by a young roster with a big man duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert?that are arguably capable of tearing the Lakers in the interior. Without Anthony Davis, the purple and gold will probably fail to stop the two giants in the paint. Hence, the Lakers might want to make a strategic decision over an apt replacement for the 29-year-old.
